In Between

The paintings from In Between aim to suggest rather than describe, alluding to places rather than describing them explicitly. Windows, doorways and reflections become devices to represent neither the interior nor the exterior but a world in between.

These works engage the viewer in a subliminal and emotive way, challenging memory and habitual responses. Their ambiguity encourages the viewer to spend time with the works to allow different readings to emerge. Whilst the pictures retain some reference to reality, they intentionally play with visual uncertainty to spur examination of the particular ways we have come to expect pictures to affect us.
