Highway Hypnosis 2026
highway hypnosis describes the peculiar feeling that overtakes me when I paint,
a state of not being in control,
that feeling of driving home and arriving without recalling how i got there.
it is work that seems to have emerged through me, rather than from me
in this case, it is memories of being on a residency in Bermagui on the south coast of NSW, spending hours alone near the ocean, the open skies, the birds, the sounds
I couldn’t make a literal depiction of this place even if I tried. somehow the memory and feelings I have about this experience made itself known while I held the brush.
